Glad the Daddies Were Back!
This second installment of the Bay Area Players series focuses on Bennett and Bower and I will say, the similar names had me stumbling over them constantly. Bennett is the younger brother of Bower’s best friend, Gabby, who found her true love and has inspired Bower to do the same.
While the premise was predictable, the fun (and not-so-fun) was in the details. With the personalities of both Bower and Bennett, you knew there was going to be witty banter aplenty, something I absolutely love in a Meghan Quinn book. The banter, along with the Gladdy Daddies being front and center, made this one a funny read.
While Bower has known Bennett since he was sixteen years old, he’s now twenty-four and very much a man. That doesn’t make the eight-year age gap any easier, especially because Bennett is pretty immature for her age. She has the sense of humor of a fifteen-year-old boy, which was funny most of the time, but it also became a little exhausting after a while.
As we move through the whole "are they or aren't they" aspect of their relationship, things started to feel a little wordy and eventually became heavily focused on the physical side. I’m not a prude, but I do like a little more substance and emotional connection in my relationships. It was difficult at times to picture these two as a long-term couple. Luckily, they have a great friend group around them to keep things entertaining, and of course, the book club was such an excellent addition!
As a Meghan Quinn fan, it pains me to say this, but this book was a smidge too long for me, and I’ll admit to doing some skimming. Bennett and Bower were not my favorite couple of hers, but the family and friends absolutely made up for it. I really enjoyed the addition of Bennett’s teammate, Nolan, and OC was on point once again. Nolan definitely gave me Jason Orson vibes, a callback to another series I love. It’s always such a treat when past characters get to step back into the spotlight in future books.
Just for the Plot reads well as a standalone, but it’s definitely more fun when read in order. I’m excited to see what’s in store for us next!
