Lots O' Football, Little Mystery
In this third installment of The Coopers series, the investigation continues alongside the football season. Vee and Finn are still going strong, while the cloud of mystery surrounding the Cooper family refuses to lift.
I've been a fan of Vee and Finn from the beginning, and I love watching Vee take charge of the team and its facilities while openly admitting she still has a lot to learn. Being in a relationship with the backup quarterback adds another layer to her role, forcing her to step back and remain impartial when it comes to the coaches' decisions.
There was a ton of football this time around. As a newer football fan, I understood what was happening, but I found myself much more interested in the investigation. I ended up skimming some of the more detailed game play-by-plays because I wanted to get back to the mystery. There just wasn't enough movement in the whodunit, and at times it felt like the mystery was intentionally being stretched to justify a third book.
That said, Sacked is well written and does move the overall story forward, it just didn't move fast enough for me. The ending definitely has me invested, though, and I'm all in to see how everything plays out in the next book. It better be the last one...or I'm coming after the author.
