ABOUT THE BOOK.
GWENDOLYN GOODE LIVES A CHARMED LIFE.
As owner of an occult shop in downtown Salem, Massachusetts she's accustomed to all things odd and otherworldly. But when a bloody animal sacrifice is left as a warning outside her place of business, the police seem to think Gwen might be the target of some truly evil-doers. Suddenly, her sunny existence is riddled with danger in the form of crazed pagans, rogue employees, and nefarious henchmen. And there's only one man who can protect her until the storm passes...
GRAHAM GRAVES HAS NO TIME FOR WITCHY NONSENSE.
Not in his love life, and definitely not in his line of work. Despite the ever-present oddities of his hometown, the private investigator and acclaimed police consultant prides himself on staying objective in every case that comes across his desk. That all changes when Gwendolyn — a woman who gets under his skin like no other — finds herself in the crosshairs of dangerous criminals. Graham is determined to make her safe, even if her presence tests his steely resolve. But as their mutual dislike sizzles into unexpected attraction... he becomes even more determined to make her something else:

MY REVIEW.
4 Stars from Tiffany!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quirky, but Cute.
In Bad Luck Charm, Julie Johnson introduces readers to Gwendolyn Goode and Graham Graves who live in Salem, Massachusetts and have such fitting names! Our story centers around witchcraft, but not the kind of witchcraft I thought it was going to be.
Gwen and Graham have tolerated each other for years. She first noticed him at the beach when she was ten and he was fifteen. I’ll admit as a mother of a girl (she’s twenty now), I’m not sure if I would have wanted her to be describing the V a hot guy was rocking at that young age. So, maybe Gwen needed to be written a little older to keep the creep meter down, as this fact did stick in my mind even as the years went by. Gwen didn’t live in Salem at the time, only visited her aunt each summer. Finally, in her twenties, tragedy brings Gwen to Salem full time and face to face with an older Graham. The handsome young man has grown into quite the bossy, alpha, who honestly was a bit annoying at times.
Gwen finds herself smack in the middle of some crazy stuff and of course at every turn annoying Graham, who is a private detective, is there to save her…much to her dismay. I loved the banter between these two, even though it was super cheesy most of the time. With the story centering around Gwen’s “witchy” store in Salem, there were a lot of occult one liners that made me laugh. Plus, Gwen was so odd it was endearing. She had a rough childhood and deflected constantly to protect herself.
The book is well written, although quite wordy. I do love a descriptive author, but at times it felt like she was trying to reach a word count goal. While a romance, there is a big whodunit brewing in the background that keeps readers on their toes. Bad Luck Charm was a different read for me, and I liked it. A nice start to the series.
