MY REVIEW.

4 Stars from Tiffany!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a Wicked Tale We Weave…

Fresh start my foot. In Liar, Liar L.A. Cotton gives her readers quite the ride with this semi-Y.A. book about starting over. While the blurb says Becca has moved to a new town for a fresh start, it couldn’t be further from the truth. The lies start to spin and the angst sets in.

Becca has no clue who she is anymore. Starting over in a new town to escape her past, she quickly realizes she’s no longer in the country club scene, but something more gritty than she’s ever been used to. I had mixed feelings for Becca’s character. She came across kind of a woe is me, whiney type, but then I didn’t know all of the facts yet, so I tried to cut her some slack when I could. She’s trying her best to tamp down the cush lifestyle she is accustomed to so she can fit in.

“We both had secrets. And secrets came hand in hand with lies.”

Our story is nothing but secrets that we don’t get to know. Becca has them, as well as the handsome Evan she quickly notices. He seems to always be around when Becca is in trouble. A quiet guy, one with a reputation, however not one that we are privy to straight away. Evan befriends Becca along with Scarlett and her crew and yet the dynamic is still off. There’s something brewing under the surface, which is where the angst kicks in. It’s almost as if everybody has some kind of a secret and when they are told, all hell is going to break loose.

The book is well written and threw me a little because it’s a pretty heavy situation for a high school setting. L.A. Cotton at least made them eighteen, so as to not be totally creepy. I’d say this story line is the movie Mean Girls mixed with something, but I don’t know what. Some movie where it’s all going to fall apart at the end and have to be explained to the hilt and you don’t know who you hate. We are of course left with a cliffhanger, as this is book one of a duet. Going in I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not, by the end, not knowing all of the secrets was killing me.
