Like it, Don't Love it...yet
In You Are My Reason, Willow Winters sets up quite the story for her readers. This is book one of a duet, so when I say set up, that's exactly what I mean. We learn the dark and sad past of both characters before we get into any kind of nitty gritty so to say.
Julia is a recently widowed socialite learning to live on her own again. It's been a while since her husband died and while she hasn't thought of another man , something about Mason catches her eye one night. Mason is a successful New York developer with a huge daddy chip on his shoulder. While he's successful on the outside, his reality couldn't be further from the truth. He knows of Julia and her wealth, as well as the loss of her husband, so it's hard to tell what instantly attracted him to her, her looks or her money. I didn't trust the guy from the get-go.
"There's something about him tonight. Something darker that I didn't see before. It's the way he looks as me like I should be running from him. It both scares me and lures me in."
As a believer in trusting your gut, Julia should have headed for zee hills instead of wasting her time with this fraud. Honestly, I wasn't fond of either of these characters, or the insta-love that was going on. Julia was a push over, while Mason was a creep. There wasn't anything but sex between them, yet they acted like they'd been dating for years. I don't know, for some reason it annoyed the heck out of me. What kept me going is the fact that Mason is full of secrets and it sounds mean, but I can't wait to see how it plays out.
The book is well written with a nice angsty storyline in between some bossy sex. Like I said, while I didn't connect to these characters, the mystery surrounding them kept me turning the pages. Of course the book ends with a gigantic cliffhanger and lucky me, I get to dive right into the next one!
Well, after finishing the second part of the duet, I am going to leave my review as it stands. As a fan of other Willow Winters work, this duet didn't hit the mark for me. In the second installment, we do get to the bottom of everything, however these characters never really stuck for me.
