Fake Lumberjacks, Real Feelings.
Falling for the Fake Lumberjack is such a fun read, Sara Ney had me laughing from beginning to end. After a quick and adorable meet-cute, things are immediately set in motion between our fake lumberjack, Harris, and small-town local Lucy.
Lucy is a lifelong resident of the small town where Harris and his teammates end up for a retreat. They play on a professional Arizona football team (thank you for not using the Cardinals), and their coach decides they need team-building exercises instead of more tackling. Enter Lucy, who works as a yoga instructor at the lodge where the team is staying meaning after that first meet-cute, Harris is suddenly very much back in her orbit.
The banter between Harris and Lucy is top-tier. I love witty back-and-forth, and these two absolutely deliver. Lucy definitely plays hard to get, even though it’s obvious she’s falling for Harris faster than she wants to admit. The main source of tension comes from their very different lives: Harris lives and works in Arizona, while Lucy has never left her small town. Cue the angst.
This book is well written and laugh-out-loud funny. Sara Ney is always a go-to for me when I’m in the mood for something cute and hilarious. The romance is mostly a slow burn, but the ending wraps up quickly and as an Arizona resident, Lucy’s comments about the weather had me cracking up. Before you know it, we’re already being set up for Lucy’s best friend’s story.
