Delightfully Charming!

Although I hadn't read the first book in the series, I easily found my footing with 'The One I Stood Beside' by Piper Rayne. The authors excel in creating engaging characters, and I quickly caught up with Jude and Sadie's journey from longtime friends to potential lovers…hopefully.

Both characters kept my interest, and I was glad they were a little older (in their 30’s) although at times they still acted like teenagers around each other. I’m sure the friends to dating hurdle isn’t easy and throwing a fake wedding in the mix makes it darn near impossible. Jude was such a man’s man, always putting his lady first and I loved that about his character. He was gruff with his brothers and cousins, but always a sweetheart to Sadie. Now Sadie on the other hand was pretty much what you see is what you get kind of gal. One minute she wants to tell Jude she likes him more than a friend and the next she ends up walking down the aisle with him.

Quotes like, 'Yeah, I might not be marrying him because he loves me, but I’m still marrying one hell of a man,' capture the heartwarming essence of Jude and Sadie's story. The familial banter between Jude, his brothers, and cousins provided ample laughs, perfectly balancing the story's emotional depth.

Piper Rayne’s writing is smooth and moved at a nice pace. No dragging things out unnecessarily for these two at all. Along with Sadie and Jude, we are introduced and delighted by pretty much the entire town, which made me glad I decided to check out Plain Daisy Ranch.
