Another Fantastic Female Lead From Tijan!
As a bit of a fangirl for this author all the way back to Jaded (on wordpress even), Broken and Screwed and of course Fallen Crest High, plus much much more, I have loved Tijan’s fierce female leads and this time around we are introduced to Jess Montell, parole officer.
Jess meets Tristian West at a hockey game and it was lust at first sight. While I’m not a fan of insta, Tijan makes them both work for it really. Jess doesn’t realize the handsome man in the stairwell is a mafia prince, all she knows is that the man can fill out a suit perfectly. We have a little cat and mouse before these two finally realize who the other is and by that time, it’s too late.
Written in perfect balance, Jess is a no-nonsense type of gal that knows how to hold her own, but also doesn’t mind a guy fawning over her. Tristain is trouble, however she doesn’t think it’s any trouble she can’t handle. Tristain on the other hand is in quite the pickle with his business life and this intriguing woman is throwing a huge wrench in it. Written like a “mafia guy” Tristan also has that good streak that makes you like his character instantly.
We travel through a complicated life with these two and I will admit at one point I wondered where my angsty Tijan storyline was, but don’t worry, it’s definitely there. Angst plus a whole lot more if I’m being honest. There are quite a few moving parts to this storyline and heading towards the end I knew us readers were going to be in trouble.
The book is well written and kept me wondering from the first page to the last. Along with Jess and Tristain, we are introduced to a handful of supporting characters to help make the story what it is. I wish I could say A Dirty Business reads as a standalone, however there is much more story to tell.
