Back to Kringletown We Go!

In this third installment of the series, the spotlight is on Storee’s sister, Taran, and a future she doesn’t want. Nothing like a pretend wedding to bring the family together for the holidays in the most Christmassy town imaginable!

Taran and Guy have been dating for five years. They aren’t an opposites-attract couple; rather, they’re basically the exact same uptight person. Things have gotten boring, so they decide to call it quits. But with Aunt Cindy’s failing health and Taran wanting her parents to visit more Christmases, she agrees to fake-marry Guy and then move on after the holidays. If that right there doesn’t tell you how this story is going to go, add Guy’s brother Nolan and let the fun begin!

Nolan is A LOT in a good, yet annoying, way. He’s Guy’s opposite and has longed for Taran since the first time he met her in a strip club. Sure, he’s still living his life, but after a stolen kiss with his brother’s girlfriend on New Year’s Eve four years ago, his mission was to make Taran his. As I always mention in a Meghan Quinn review, Jason Orson is one of my favorite characters, and Nolan is a super-sexual version of him in my mind. This guy was sex 24/7 and didn’t care who was around when he was throwing out the lines or making his moves. While cringey at times, it was still laugh-out-loud funny, and you had to take him with a grain of salt to fully appreciate his personality.

The book loosely follows the format of Christmas Vacation, with a little Sixteen Candles thrown in. All the parents are under one roof, additional guests add to the chaos, and there’s a crazy house-lighting event for everyone to enjoy.

There’s a fake wedding being planned in the background while Nolan and Taran are getting together, and all the while, I was feeling bad for Guy, who was actually a nice guy. The big question was when the other shoe was finally going to drop, because you just know that wedding isn’t happening.

The book is well-written and funny as all get-out in pure Meghan Quinn style. While a tad gratuitous at times, I do have the sense of humor of a fifteen-year-old boy, so I appreciated most of it! I loved that all our Kringletown characters were represented, too, as we got to catch up with them along the way. The book can be read as a standalone, but it’s more fun when read in order.
