In exchange for my life, I’m placed under his watchful eye. Day in and day out, he waits for me to betray my promise of silence.

The longer I stay in his world, the deeper I fall for the glimpses of the man beneath that handsome yet cunning exterior. The man whose possessive touch ignites a long-lost part of me.

But I should know better than to open my heart to a cold-blooded criminal with a laundry list of deadly sins and secrets. Especially when he has no idea who I really am.

Because when the lies unfold, he’ll discover I have a list of sins and secrets of my own.

MY REVIEW.

4 Stars from Tiffany!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Looooooong Road to Get There…

R.C. Boldt's When Lies Unfold delivers a thrilling narrative packed with action, centered around the unraveling of various deceits in an intense enemies-to-lovers dynamic.

From the outset, Lola and Santiago (my father-in-law’s name, too funny) find themselves embroiled in a tense scenario, with Lola witnessing a murder and Santiago entrenched in a dangerous underworld as a notorious drug lord. The tension remains high throughout the storyline, keeping readers on edge. While Lola's tough demeanor initially impressed me, her cheesy banter sometimes detracts from her character's credibility. Santiago, on the other hand, embodies the strong, silent type, his dialogue peppered with a Southern twang in the reader's imagination rather than a Mexican accent. He felt a little lost in life even though he’s this big, bad narco-type dude adding depth to his character.

Lola ends up in Santiago’s house against her will and of course, we all know what’s going to happen by the end. What we didn’t know is that Lola has quite the background herself and quickly earned the respect of Santiago and the others in the house. She wasn’t looking to leave one bad situation for another, however walking out the door isn’t something she can do, she’s got to play the long game with this guy.

The book is well written and while I love a descriptive author, this was over descriptive for my taste and I found myself skimming at times. Pages and pages of inner dialogue and actual talking to themselves, which felt like filler. That said, I enjoyed the story of Santiago and Lola, with the supporting characters adding the perfect amount of humor. When Lies Unfold reads as a standalone with a cute epilogue to peek into the future.
