Excellent Start to the Series!

Wow, with this first book in the Whitlock Family series, Corinne Michaels gives readers quite a story featuring Asher Whitlock and Phoebe, daughter of the small town’s police chief. While it starts out as a “falling for the nanny” story, it ends up being so much more.

I liked both Phoebe and Asher from the get-go. They were written very down to earth with great personalities. Phoebe is trying to put a situation from her past behind her, while Asher is trudging along on the force, raising his daughter with his ex. The minute Pheobe, an ASL student, meets Olivia, Asher’s daughter who is hearing impaired, it felt like all the pieces of this story were going to fall into place perfectly…I couldn’t have been more wrong.

As a fan of angst, this book had the perfect amount. With the secret Phoebe was carrying around, there was no way this book was going to be sunshine and rainbows till the end and I was correct. At around the 75% mark, we were thrown a curve ball I didn’t see coming and read the book with high anxiety until the end.

Forbidden Hearts is well written, pretty much checking off all the boxes for me. The “forbidden” part wasn’t nearly as interesting as the rest of the storyline when it was all said and done. Along with our main characters, we are introduced to the other Whitlock siblings, each with a story to tell and I’ll be waiting for them!
