Another Wild Mafia Ride!!
In the second installment of The Rise of the De Langes series, Little Nightmare, we get up close and personal with Ace DeLange and Raven Alfero. While theyโre from different Mafia families, Ace pretty much grew up around Raven, so theyโre not total strangers.
Ace finds himself assigned as Ravenโs bodyguard after her original one is murdered, just another day in her world. But Raven has a secret, one that could change everything for her family. Shockingly, Ace stands by her, and just like that, their dynamic shifts. Sheโs got a target on her back, and Ace is willing to risk everything to protect her while they try to figure out whoโs after her.
I liked both characters right away. Sure, theyโre both carrying a lot of pain and constantly trade jabs, but deep down, they understand each other. They slowly start to open up, learning to trust one another with their most guarded secrets. Ace might be a total badass, but when it comes to Raven, heโs got a gentle side too. Heโs not always the one doing the hurtingโsometimes, heโs the one getting hurt.
The book is well-written and balances humor and heartache in just the right way. The moment you start feeling sorry for one of the characters, they do a 180 and change your mind. Alongside Ace and Raven, several familiar faces from the Mafia world pop in to keep the story moving. I especially loved seeing some of the original Eagle Elite characters I met so long ago.
Little Nightmare works well as a standalone, and it wraps up nicely with an epilogue that hints at whatโs coming next in the series.
