Simple for Sure.
Low-angst lovers, this is the book for you.
In A Simple Love, we meet Kassie and Oliver. They were teenage sweethearts who reconnect in their late twenties. Quite a bit of time has passed; however, it doesn't take them long to realize the feelings are still there.
Oliver is a movie star who's starting to feel the burn. After leaving his small hometown and Kassie when he was eighteen, he quickly discovers that money and fame don't buy happiness. Following some turbulent years in LA—most of which painted him in a bad light—he's back home to film a western and rehab his image. Little does he realize that what he left behind all those years ago is exactly what he needs now.
Kassie also left their small town to chase big dreams, though with a broken heart. She put herself through school and is now a CPA who bakes pies for a local restaurant on the side. Her heart was broken all those years ago, but she's built a good life for herself.
Oliver's manager finds him a place to stay while filming the movie, and wouldn't you know it—it's the upstairs apartment in Kassie's house. Awkward at first, Oliver and Kassie quickly settle into a friendship that could become something more.
While predictable, this was a cute, low-angst read. Kassie and Oliver both have baggage from the past, with Oliver's resurfacing to cause a little ruckus, but everything felt like it was resolved a little too quickly. I also struggled to fully connect with them as a couple. Their history was there, but I wanted a little more emotional depth and chemistry to really feel invested in their reunion.
