ABOUT THE BOOK.

Izzy Grimes is the baby of her generation, and for the most part, she’s always been okay with that. She has eight nieces and nephews she adores, older siblings to give her life advice, and an endless supply of love and support. But at the same time, she’s anxious to grow up and live her own life. A twenty-year-old senior in college, she’s worked hard to graduate early and start her career as a child life specialist to help children and families dealing with illness, injury, and hospitalization, all while taking nannying jobs on the side to satisfy her love of spending time with children. When her dad recommends a new family for her to nanny for, she’s happy to take on the job during her final year in school.

Lucas Steele is an English professor and a widower with two kids who has just about had it with hiring nannies. He knows he needs one, but none of them seem to take the job seriously enough or follow his care requests with respect. When the daughter of his boss shows up at his house to interview for the job, he’s surprised by his attraction to her. But she also has a great background with kids and genuinely seems to know what she’s doing. In fact, she quickly proves to be a better nanny than he ever could have imagined.

As Izzy and Luke navigate their professional relationship, things are further complicated when she enrolls in his English class and their attraction to each other grows as they develop an easy friendship. But Luke is a decade older than Izzy, who is not only his employee, but also his boss’s daughter and his student. With a host of reasons not to give in to temptation, it should be easy to resist blurring the lines, but their connection might just be too hard to resist, and too dangerous not to.

MY REVIEW.

3.5 Stars from Tiffany!
⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Fresh Start.

In this fifth installment of the Next Gen series (and the only one I’ve read), readers get up close and personal with Izzy, the baby of a very large and interesting family.

While the blurb gives you a solid idea of what to expect, the real enjoyment of this story lies in the details though at times, those details felt a bit overwhelming for me. Izzy and Luke are instantly attracted to one another, but the circumstances surrounding them turn what could have been an easy romance into a slow burn.

I liked both main characters right away. Izzy is a mature twenty-one-year-old, and Luke, who is a few years older and “wiser,” brings a grounded presence to the story. As a widower with two children, his life experiences have clearly shaped his cautious approach to relationships. I understood his need for rules and boundaries, though at times they felt a little excessive. That said, it was refreshing to see him loosen up and allow himself moments of happiness.

The book is well written overall; however, since this story comes so far into the series, there is a lot of background explanation about the extended family. As someone new to the series, I found this made the story feel heavy in places. Even so, it still felt like a solid and meaningful addition to the Next Gen world.
