Slow Burn Romance.

As a first-time reader of Sara McClaflin, I was really impressed by the descriptive depth she brought to the story of Elias and Amara.

There’s an intriguing mystery at the heart of the book, one that Amara doesn’t fully recognize until she begins working at Elias's Dravenmoor Estate. Having recently dealt with a painful breakup, Amara is simply seeking distance from her past and doesn’t care much about what she’s doing, as long as it’s far from her old life. With a historian for a father, curiosity is in her blood, and the estate seems full of nothing but secrets. Elias, for his part, is searching for something precious, and even the sharpest detectives have been unable to help. The quiet, distant Elias soon realizes that Amara is more than just a maid—she’s quickly piecing together the mysteries that surround them both.

I really liked the premise of the story and, once again, the beautiful writing. The main characters and supporting cast were well-developed and engaging. The mystery simmering in the background certainly kept my attention. However, the pacing was a bit slow at times, and the romance felt somewhat awkward. It almost seemed like it was added in spur-of-the-moment, which threw the balance of the story off at points. Still, The Keeper's Secret works well as a standalone, with a sweet peek into what the future holds for the characters.
