[Blog Tour + Review] Pretty Little Island by Rhea Ryan

Pretty Little Island, a high school bully, dark romance from debut author Rhea Ryan is out now!

BLURB.

Torn between two lovers on a pretty but deadly island, London King must survive the ravages of the wilderness and a battle for her heart.

My first day at New Ocean Prep was supposed to be a fresh start. A chance to return to my hometown—leaving my ruined life behind me. My goal is simple. Keep my grades up, my head down, and focus on securing my spot in a top journalism program.

My past catches up with me as I’m drawn towards the two hottest hockey players in school. A trip to a national hockey tournament in Alaska has me investigating the truth behind what happened to a girl they tormented and killed two summers earlier.

This story has more layers than I imagined. The deeper I enter their world, the stronger our bonds become until I can’t tell whose side I’m really on.

MY REVIEW.

4 Stars from Tiffany!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Didn’t Love it, but Didn’t Hate it Either…

After finishing this book, I’m as torn as the heroine on which way to feel about it. Rhea Ryan gives readers a ton to work with, however also a ton of really?? moments when It’s all said and done.

The blurb says it all, London is torn between twin brothers who couldn’t be more different, strand them on an island and things are amplified by a million percent. I wasn’t a fan of London or the twins, Maison and Micha. They all had grating personalities, with London’s being the worst. She was selfish from the get-go and didn’t get better throughout the book. The three of them are stranded on an island with a handful of classmates and all she cared about is which brother she loved more, even though she just met them. It got real old, real fast. To me, it felt like there were way more important things to worry about, like surviving.

As insufferable as the characters were, I did like the background noise. There’s a bit of a whodunit running behind the scenes, another reason London inserts herself into everybody’s business, even though she’s the new kid at school and there lies the problem for me, these characters were too young for what I was reading. There were heavy duty emotions and scenes that gave me a creepy feel because these were high school kids. I would have liked to see them in their twenties at least.

The book is well written, but all over the place if that makes any sense and I will admit to skimming a bit. There are only so many pages about “feelings” that I’ll put up with. Those could have been cut out completely and the storyline would have been tighter for a better read. All of that said, I do want to see how we ended up on a red carpet, which is how the story starts. As a duet, the book ends on a big ole cliffhanger.
