Slow Start, Great Finish.

After the first book in this trilogy, I was going to stick with Gina Azzi’s hockey players, yet here I am again. In this second book, Derek is still an emotional mess and Allegra is still along for the ride. Sigh. This review may contain spoilers for the first book, Rebellious Rockstar.

We pick up right where we left off with a selfish Derek, once again breaking Allegra’s heart. At twenty-two, this girl has been through the ringer with Derek, and I really wanted her to move on from him once and for all. That said, she is living her best life back home. Well, maybe not her best life, but a life without him. She’s working, going to school, and hanging out with her friends. Then he returns. Boo.

Derek is back in town for an event and Allegra falls right back into his arms. I really wanted her to put up more of a fight. Make this guy work for it at least a little bit. Nope. She’s right back at square one and I was disappointed for sure.

The book is well written and along with Derek and Allegra, the rest of the boys from the band are present and accounted for and Allegra’s boss, Dex, is a prominent adult figure in her life, which she needed. I’ll admit I was in a DNF mood for at least the first half of the book. I wasn’t a fan of these characters from the get-go, and they weren’t any better this time around. However, Gina Azzi ramped up the angst and threw a few curveballs heading towards the finish line and dang it, I’m all in for book three. I’m gonna need to see how this is all going to play out.
