Great Start to the Series!
After I finished the Green Family series, I wondered what to go to next from Piper Raine and The Kingsmen Football Stars fits the bill perfectly!
While we are focused on Shayna and Lee, we also meet the rest of the team and family members. That is something I absolutely love in a series, keeping up with the past and present characters throughout each book. Lee and Shayna actually met before she found herself working for the Kingsmen football team where Lee is the star quarterback. They had a “She’s All That” moment in college, where Lee was a complete ass and dated Shayna on a bet, however just like the movie, he fell for her and quickly finds out how a woman never forgets when you F her over. It’s years later and while Shayna doesn’t want to be affected by him and the stupid bet, she is. Off to the win her back races we go!
I liked Lee right off the bat, but wasn’t a fan of Shayna’s. Sure it’s easy to say get over it and move on, however she was just kind of ugh after a while. It wasn’t the kind of angst I was hoping for in their story.
The book is well written and quite predictable, that said, it’s also a great start to the Kingsmen series. I didn’t realize there was a short prequel for this couple and wished I would have so I could appreciate Shayna’s attitude a bit more. You Had Your Chance Lee Burrows reads well as a standalone with a nice epilogue that parlays into what looks like Brady’s story next.
