Great Rixon High Follow up!

Well, we are back with the students and coaches at Rixon High. We left off with Peyton in book one and her story picks up right from there. It's Peyton and Xander's turn and I couldn't wait to see what skeletons were in his closet. This review may contain spoilers for the first book.

"Two lost souls twined with grief and pain."

That is Peyton and Xander in a nutshell. We met Xander in the first book and L.A. Cotton did a nice job of making you want to know more about this broody guy with an attitude. He was hiding something and after saving Peyton, she seems to be the only one that can see it.

"What Peyton and I shared was rare. It was ours."

If only she was of age, this would be such a quick, slightly dark fairytale romance, but there's absolutely no fun in that. What Peyton and Xander shared was heavy and not understood by anybody, not even themselves most of the time. Besides the age gap, we were getting bits and pieces of Xander's life that really helped keep the angst factor of this book quite high.

"I was a fu@king coward. Bold enough to love her in the shadows, but too scared to love her in public."

The thing that made this relationship of sorts so difficult wasn't only the age factor, but these two were completely intertwined with the family dynamic. Him the outsider uncle/brother and her the unwanted kid that was taken in by a very generous family of the uncle/brother. There is a lot at stake if they really wanted to try and make this work.

The book is well written and moves the series along nicely. We are completely involved with all of the previous characters and L.A. Cotton gave Ezra and Ashleigh a little more air time so we can be ready for thier story. Looks like another guy with some major baggage coming right up!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR.

Author of over thirty mature young adult and new adult novels, LA COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.

Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.
