Zoe Fitzgerald has been cleaning up after her sister for years. As much as she wants to walk away, she can’t. Because her innocent niece and nephew are betting on her to keep them safe. Knowing she could be called upon at any moment means love isn’t on the horizon for Zoe. She’d never expect someone to willingly walk into the train wreck that is her life.

Being a police officer who serves the community on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Dex Taylor is no stranger to crime. While he’s seen his fair share of bad situations, it’s two terrified children who nearly bring him to his knees. And it’s their aunt that steals his heart.

After her sister’s latest disaster, Zoe is determined as ever to save these kids for the last time. What she wasn’t expecting was the handsome officer’s willingness to help. While she appreciates his efforts, Zoe isn’t stupid. Dex is simply a good man with a big heart.

A real relationship isn’t in the cards… is it?

MY REVIEW.

4 Stars from Tiffany!
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dex is Book Boyfriend Material

While this is the eighth book in the Road Trip Romance series, it's the first one I've read. They are a series, however it seems as each book is it's own romance in a different state. This time around we end up in Nevada with Zoe and Dex.

Zoe is the responsible sister, the one with a good job, no jail time and unfortunately for her, no husband or kids. It's something she's really wanted, however her little niece and nephew mean more to her than finding a man at the moment. Zoe's sister is a bit of a loose cannon that was always in trouble when they were kids and still seems to have the same wild streak as an adult, only now there are two kids involved in her crazy. Zoe is more than the fun aunt, she's the stability the kids need and after one fateful day, she's the only stability the kids have.

Dex has a front row seat to the crazy that is Zoe's life. He knows exactly how she ended up in the situation she's in and from the moment he saw her, he wanted nothing more than to help her out. Sounds a bit stalker-ish and it is, but he was such a nice guy, I gave him a pass on the insta.

I liked Dex right off the bat, it was Zoe that had to really, really grow on me. She was written in her mid-thirties, however had the inner monologue of a teenage girl. She was confident in every aspect of her life until Dex walks into it. I didn't like how wishy-washy she was with him when he did nothing to provoke the feelings.

The book is well written as we navigate the path to love with Zoe and Dex. There's a little bit of everything as you read to check all of the boxes. While I'm a fan of angst, this was a bit manufactured (in Zoe's mind) and I found it annoying after a while. In the Cards reads as a standalone with a nice epilogue to wrap things up.

AUTHOR BIO.

A.K. EVANS is a contemporary romance author of over twenty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.

Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!

When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.
