Just What He Needed!
This is exactly the story I was hoping for Ryland! We’ve gotten glimpses of him in previous books—he’s been an incredible guardian to his niece, Mac, and a bit grumpy, but Gabby isn’t intimidated by him at all. I applaud her. 😉
Ryland is wound pretty tight. He’s a father figure, a teacher, a coach, and the protector of his family. After raising his three sisters, he now cares for his four-year-old niece following the death of her mother. He’s perfect with little Mac, but Ryland also needs some fun in his life—and that’s where Gabby comes in. Unbeknownst to her, she’s in town for a job interview, not looking for a handsome guy at the bar for a one-night fling.
The chemistry and witty banter between Ryland and Gabby was fantastic, whether it was through their conversations or text messages. Gabby was the perfect match for Ryland, especially since their similar upbringings formed a strong connection between them. They went about things backwards, diving straight into a physical relationship while slowly getting to know each other. Neither of them wanted anything serious, but deep down, they both craved it. It was cute how cautious they were, unsure of where this might go.
While we’re waiting for Ryland and Gabby to figure things out, there’s some trouble brewing in Gabby’s life. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and when it did, I really hoped these two would hold it together.
The book is well written, and it’s pure Meghan Quinn. The steam starts right away, and the tension builds throughout. As a big fan, the book wouldn’t be complete for me without a mention of the one and only Jason Orson...and he was! I love callbacks and this author is the QUEEN of them! The Path to Loving Him can be read as a standalone, but it’s much more enjoyable when you read the series in order. Plus, the epilogue was a total surprise and had me a little misty—definitely not what I expected.
