One of Her Best!!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I say that about every single Meghan Quinn book, but this one had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. There’s nothing like a group text chat with a handful of hockey players to make my day!
In this fourth installment of the Vancouver Agitators series, we’re up close and personal with Halsey Holmes the hot hockey player and Blakely one of the team’s PR geniuses, both of whom we’ve met in previous books. Halsey and Blakely have seen each other around the arena, however when officially meeting her, Blakey takes his breath away. While I’m not a fan of insta, this was a different story. Both characters had some baggage, his way more serious than hers, so I knew while he felt it instantly, it was going to be a long road ahead.
I loved Halsey. He was such an enigma. So many different emotions flowed through him, and he had no way to get them out. After tragedy struck his family, nothing has ever been the same. Blakely was the light in his dark world, and I really wanted them to make it work. Blakely is fresh off a long-term relationship and thought nothing of the invitation from Halsey to stay at his place while hers was being repaired from water damage. Could she have been more wrong?
The bulk of the story is Halsey dealing with expressing his feelings. Again, this dude has been through the ringer, so I read with the upmost patience for him. He transformed chapter after chapter, and I was excited to see how it was all going to end. Blakely was struggling with her own decisions, while not as dire as Halsey’s, nonetheless some big decisions that need to be made quickly.

Those kinds of lines keep me coming back to Megan Quinn books and have for years. I know people like to be the queen of angst, but she is the queen of witty banter. It feels like you’re right in on the conversations they’re that good. Along with Halsey and Blakely we’re joined by his teammates and her best friends and of course the call backs to other books…those always make me giddy. He’s Not My Type is well written and gets sexy as all get out once Halsey feels comfortable. What a surprise that was! As part of a series, the book reads well as a standalone, however is that much better when read in order. It’s easy to appreciate friendships with more context.
