[Release Boost + Review] On the Rebound by L.A. Cotton

ON THE REBOUND, a brand new enemies-to-lovers sports romance from L.A. Cotton IS LIVE!!

They say your first love leaves a mark.
For Calliope James it didn't only leave a mark, it tore out her heart and left it bleeding on the ground.
He was her best friend.
Her first kiss.
Her everything.
Until one day, he wasn't.
Zachary Messiah will never forget the girl with eyes the color of whiskey. But he's not that boy anymore.
He's devoid of emotion.
Their paths were never supposed to cross again. But love doesn't always play by the rules.
Now he's the King of Steinbeck University and she's the new girl on campus ... and the pasts they have fought so hard to bury are about to collide.
Only this time, they might not survive the fallout.

4 Stars from Tiffany!

The Angsty Roller Coaster I was Looking For...

My last few reads were more of a cut and dry romance, lacking the angst I enjoy. L.A. Cotton fixed that quickly with On the Rebound. The angst level is a ten, while also keeping us guessing about this leading man, Zach. As a fan of second chance, as well as the douchebag guy turning a new leaf, Zach was the perfect fit. The guy couldn't have been more of an a-hole and I wanted nothing but the worst for him for the majority of the book.

Zach and Calli have picture perfect lives on the outside, however one quick look in, all you can do is feel bad for both. Zach may be the star basketball player for the school, but he is there for all the wrong reasons, which produces quite the chip on his shoulder. Calli is the new girl on campus trying to move forward with her life. All goes well to plan until she runs smack dab into her past. Cue the confusion and misunderstandings.

The angst level is high because we know early on there is unfinished business with these Zach and Calli and it was a slow crawl to get to finally see what that business is/was. I didn't hate the crawl, but at times it did feel insanely slow.

"He was a menace to my heart, and I had to let him go."

Calli is so lost all I could do was feel bad for her. She had another token favorite of mine, the hilarious best friend. Josie played the friend card well, adding much needed humor to this heavy read. Calli is determined to press on with her life and I admired her spirit. At times I wanted her to move on from Zach, however knew that wasn't the will of the book.

On the Rebound is well written, checking off a lot of boxes for me. While it became a predictable read, I enjoyed the tension and back and forth with several of the characters. Along with Zach and Calli, we get to know thier friends and family pretty well to round the story out. The book reads as a standalone with a nice epilogue.

Author of over thirty mature young adult and new adult novels, L.A. COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.

Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.
