We Finally Meet Ronan!
Kathryn Shay has been teasing us with her "dark" character Ronan and we finally learn why this mysterious man took himself out of such a tight knit family at an early age.
While Ronan has been showing up here and there in the other Casella Cousins books, we only learned bits and pieces about him. The big one being that he doesn't like his mother one bit. Sure his siblings aren't fans of hers either, but with Ronan it ran deep and the reason why is unreal.
Ronan is guarded and his past has surely made him that way. He's been burned bad, real bad by the person he was supposed to trust the most. Now he's back in HIdden Cove for an extended period of time, ready to let it all out. Plus, the show must go on. Ronan leaves New York as a director and talks his choreographer to go along with him to run a play with for a year in his hometown. Eliza only knows New York Ronan, not Ronan Casella of Hidden Cove that has secrets.
She was good for him. Eliza knows Ronan is hiding something, but never in her wildest dreams did she realize what a large, loving family he's been staying away from. She knows he's a good man, if only he can move from his past and enjoy his life. There's a lot to unpack with this complicated man and she hopes she can make it to the end with him.
Ronan was well written and dare I say, had bit of a darker side (which I liked) compared to the others. Kathryn Shay started out pretty tame with these cousin books and I feel like she's upping the bar for herself with each one. Like the rest of the series, each cousin and spouse is involved to help move the story along.
4 Stars from Renee!
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below they are part of this series in case you want to read those books(s) first:
Hayley (Casella Cousins #1)
Seth (Casella Cousins #2)
Finn (Casella Cousins #3)
Alessia (Casella Cousins #4)
Gideon (Casella Cousins #5)
This is Ronan’s story. He left his family after two tragic events. Now years later we learn just what happened to him and how he learned to deal with the past. We learn just why he hates his mother, and it is a shock. His girl is exactly right for him and helps him keep grounded but will she still want him after all the secrets are out? After all he will be in his hometown for a year and they are all about to come crashing out. When the dusk settles around the secrets will anything be the same?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
