Katrina Vega is set on one thing: finishing college. She’s determined not to let anything or anyone distract her, especially not hot brooding bikers. On her mission to stay focused, she doesn’t expect to be pulled into the fold of a motorcycle club, let alone into the arms of Alec "Mute" Stillwater.

Unable to keep her guard up, Katrina soon discovers that beneath the hard and rough exterior of a family she’s grown to care for, there’s also loyalty and passion she’s envious of. But falling for the club’s enforcer will not only threaten her plans but quite possibly her life.

Heavy on Story, Light on Romance

M.L. Nystrom did a nice job on her first book in the Dragon Runners series. While the story is Mute and Katrina's, we meet all of the brothers, old ladies and of course the ever annoying club bunnies.

Mute was quite the puzzle to Katrina, as well as myself. I had a whole other picture in my head as to what he was going to be and he turned out totally different. As a huge fan of the MC genre, Mute has everything you would expect, rough and tumble bikers, lots of whores hanging around to create angst and the bad guys looking to take the club out. What is different, is Mute. Who he is and where he came from was a story in of itself.

Katrina has been a little girl lost for years. On her own since she was eighteen and out of the system. She's got one goal in mind, to finish college. Doing what she can for work that will fit her school schedule, Kat finds herself tending bar at a Dragon Runners owned establishment. The very bar that Mute is personally in charge of. There was something different about him the second she saw him, little did she know...

Mute is as much of a loaner as Kat. Sure he's got his brothers to count as family, but that's about it and he's not looking for more. He's learned from his past and isn't looking to get burned again. However, just like Kat, Mute sees something different about her as well. She isn't putting herself out there to snag a biker boyfriend, rather the opposite, she hides in plain site. Something he finds intriguing.

While we get more backstory on the brothers and club, rather than a love story this time around, I still found the book interesting from the get go. M.L. Nystrom did a fantastic job at setting everybody up with a backstory, making you want more.

Mute is well written from dual points of view with a nice epilogue to keep things moving along. I'll be waiting for Stud's book next.

I was pulled right into this story and kept turning the pages until the very end.  The story has laughs, suspense, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Kat and Mute‘s story.  Mute is his own brand of a man.  He has issues, but they are different then the typical MC brother.  Oh, he is surrounded but the typical MC things.  But he is a loner but then so is Kat.  They are different but in a lot of ways they are the same if that makes sense.  She is working at a bar that he happens to be in charge of.  He sees things in her that he has not seen in another woman he has been around.  She is not out to get a MC brother she is more in the background and trying to stay that way.  Will he let her?  You get a lot of the club’s backstory in this book, but I think in the books going forward you will need those stories.  Wish it was a novella for the back story and more of this couple’s story in this book but all in all it worked out.

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

ML Nystrom had stories in her head since she was a child. All sorts of stories of fantasy, romance, mystery and anything else that captured her interest.  A voracious reader, she’s spent many hours devouring books; therefore, she found it only fitting she should write a few herself!

ML has spent most of my life as a performing musician and band instrument repair technician, but that doesn’t mean she’s pigeon-holed into one mold.  She’s been a university professor, belly dancer, craftsperson, soap maker, singer, rock band artist, jewelry maker, lifeguard, swim coach, and whatever else she felt like exploring.  As one of her students said to her once, "Life’s too short to ignore the opportunities."  She has no intention of ever stopping... so welcome to her story world. She hopes you enjoy it!
