Title: Whispered Prayers of a Girl
Author: Alex Grayson
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 10, 2017
A tortured soul meets a damaged family…
A lonely man, a widowed woman, a carefree boy, and a broken girl… Can the four come together and help heal each other? Or will fear of the unknown and guilt about the past keep them apart?
Her whispered prayers break her...
At night, as she’s drifting off to sleep, I press my ear to the door and listen to her heart-wrenching pleas. Her words are agony to my healing heart, but I cherish the sound of them, for that’s the only time I ever hear my beautiful daughter speak. Since her father died two years ago, she’s grown quiet and withdrawn. Cat’s Valley was to be our new beginning, a place where my family and I can heal, but what we find there is so much more.
Scars mar his body. Pain has left him in pieces…
Four years ago, I lost the two things I cherished most in the world. They were ripped from my arms in the most painful and cruel way. Since then, I’ve kept to myself, preferring to stay away from the pitying looks and murmured rumors. Everything changed when she and her children barged into my life. It was an accident, and I don’t deserve them, but now that they’re here, I’m not sure I can let them go.

Beautiful, heartbreaking read
While Alex Grayson lays it all out there in the blurb, there is so much more going on for Alexander and Gwen. Much, much more. Whispered Prayers of a Girl was another book that reads like a movie script in my mind, checking every emotion box as you go along.
It's funny that I had read Tied by Carian Cole before this book, so this is my second time in a row dealing with a beautifully broken man scared to death of love. It sounds a little creepy, but I'm kind of liking this genre more and more. It's the transformation of these guys that I find interesting.
Alexander has isolated himself from his family, as well as the little town that surrounds him. He can't leave, even if the memories of the tragedy are a mere five minutes away from his home. He works, eats, sleeps, remembers and repeat. That is the life Alexander feels he deserves.
Gwen is in the same boat, not with as much guilt mind you, but with two little ones to keep afloat along with her. Looking for a fresh start, Gwen finds herself in Alexander's little town and after a weather mishap, right in his house.
From a mile away these two were a perfect fit, it was sorting through the emotional baggage they both carry to make room for somebody new. I instantly loved Alexander. He was gruff, with a heart of gold. A broken heart, but it was still in there nonetheless. Alexander is a caretaker and when his life took that tragic hit, he only had himself and horses to take care of, until she showed up. It was heartwarming to see Alexander fall back into the role of caretaker, even with the baby steps he took.
Gwen was patient and her children were exactly what Alexander needed. It was a story of right place at the right time for the four of them. Getting it to work was the difficult part. Everybody was on a different emotional page and I enjoyed the wait for each one to catch up. Lots of back and forth with Alexander and Gwen, adding some heavy angst to the story.
The book is well written and I was hooked from the first page. Whispered Prayers of a Girl could have gone a number of ways and I am glad Alex Grayson stayed right on track with this beautiful couple and even gives us a little epilogue to let us know how they're doing.
4.5 Stars from Renee!

The story has pain, secrets, love, a second chance for both people, more emotions then you might be able to handle, and heartbreak.
This is Gwen and Alexander’s story. These two people are both broken. Both are barely holding it together. Alexander just sleeps, eats, and works. He is not dealing with life. That is all he deserves at least that is what he feels. Gwen goes through the same emotions but she has two people depending on her for everything. Alexander is a natural caring person but he is afraid to love. When Gwen comes into his life they both try to fight the attraction but with her and the kids around and him falling is he even ready? Can they both deal with the past to move on to a better brighter future? With emotions running high all around is a relationship even wise?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book.
