They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.
They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I fucking dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.
5 Stars from Tiffany!
He Gets on Your Good Side...Eventually
I'll tell ya, L.J. Shen creates some characters that I would like the castrate the second I meet them. First it was Vicious and now Ruckus. Good grief, these guys don't have a charming bone in thier body, except the "bone" they talk about 24/7. I almost feel dirty for liking Ruckus, however I am a huge fan of "a tiger changing his stripes" type of story and that's exactly what this is.
Dean Cole is an all american douche bag, just like his buddy Vicious. He is another member of the HotHoles from high school that has parlayed his millions into so much more. Dean has it all, except the girl of his dreams. No, that girl he treats like total crap when he sees her, just as if he was in kindergarten pulling on her pigtails. Instead of pulling on her hair, he's making out with two other chicks in front of her in an elevator.
"He was beautiful, but he was also a mess of epic proportions."
Yeah, that's putting it mildly. Rosie LeBlanc doesn't know the half of what Dean has going on in his head. I mean it's obvious he smokes and drinks to forget, but come on, by the age of thirty, you need to either fix what is wrong or move the F on from it. Don't take it out on everyone around you. Rosie has her own share of problems which we learned about in Vicious. She is painted more fragile this time around and surely seems like the victim to Dean Cole's antics once again.
"I hated everything about Dean Cole. Everything...but him."
And there is Rosie's battle. Like Dean eleven years ago, Rosie had a thing for him. For some reason or another where Vicious is involved, he chose her sister. He was officially her sister's ex-boyfriend. A phrase that didn't sit well with Rosie or her family, eleven years later or not.
"Dean Cole was nothing like people pegged him. He was the worst kind of devil. One that hid behind a polite smile, preppy clothes and good manners."
It was hard to wade through Dean's initial B.S. to get to the heart of his problem. When it is all said and done, he's just an insecure boy trapped in a confident man's body. This guy has some pretty heavy emotional baggage and of course, I totally fell for it and liked him by the end of the book. Even though she physically wasn't, Rosie was a strong girl. The kind of girl to finally put Dean Cole in his place. To shut his big mouth. To make him face his demons.
"There won't be a next Rosie. And there won't be another story like ours. This is it, Rose LeBlanc. And this is us. If there is no you, then there is no me."
While this isn't anything I would entertain in my real life as I have two sisters, I do enjoy reading others drama and that's exactly what this was. Drama times ten. Rosie in her own way turns out to be one tough bird and got things done. Her way.
The book is well written from dual points of view and the perfect a-hole read. I do appreciate an author like L.J. Shen that can have me hating a character in the first chapter and totally changing my opinion of them by the end. The next book is set up nicely and sounds like it's going to blow Jamie and Melody's story out of the water with the creep factor.
L.J. Shen resides in sunny California with her husband, son, chubby cat and wild, wild dreams.
