Liked it, didn't Love it
Right off the bat I had a chip on my shoulder reading this book as I am not a fan of insta-love. Reading on, I was glad Alyson Reynolds let her characters act on the friendship longer than I expected from that first chapter.
Nate is instantly smitten with his best friend's sister Olivia. After hearing stories about her for years, he feels like he already knows her when they finally run into each other at school. What Nate doesn't know, is that Olivia is harboring some pretty deep heartache and isn't ready to open up to anybody just yet.
That is where we get our back and forth, angsty read, which I usually enjoy. However, this time it felt as if Alyson Reynolds was trying to pile too much drama on her characters and it started to not make much sense and felt over dramatic at times.
While I liked Nate and Olivia, they didn't have much chemistry and when faced with real problems, she ran, which was immature for a girl of her age. At times, I felt that Nate could do much better than Olivia and all of her drama. Yes what happened to her in the past is still front and center, but come on, let the guy in, he wants to shoulder some of your pain and heartache.
The book was well written, with the exception of the annoying breath/breathe mistake that drives me insane (which I wouldn't mention, but it was more than once) and written from dual points of view. This is the first book in the series and like I said, I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it and will be curious to see what Finn is up to next.
Romance writer. Wife. Mother of two. Avid reader. Queen of multitasking.
Originally from the south, Alyson likes to incorporate what she knows into her books. She's lived not only on the east coast, but the west coast and a few places in between. Alyson loves sharing stories about her crazy family to anyone who will listen. Her guilty pleasures consist of coffee, country music, brunch, breaking the rules, and pedicures. And she will always be a daddy's girl.
When Alyson isn't chasing around her two kiddos, she's normally writing. Or reading. Her Kindle library is out of control. Alyson writes mainly contemporary novels and novellas with a bit of new adult mixed in.
