THE PERFECT NEIGHBORS. THE PERFECT COVER.

A Gripping Romantic Suspense Thriller

He’s a contract killer. She likes to even the score. Smack dab in the middle of suburbia, few married couples are as competitive as Jude and Kate.

But then, most married couples don't keep score in the form of body counts. Each hell-bent on a silent pact to out-do the other, the games begin.

Who ends up on top is anyone’s guess. But with these two, one thing’s for sure— not everyone comes out alive.

After all, there are a few things they can agree on: All is fair in love and war. And if they can’t make it work— they’re dead in the water.

EXCERPT:

“Cheers,” I offer, but it sounds like ‘fuck you,’ which it is, and I hate that we haven’t touched glasses. It’s bad luck, and certainly we don’t need any of that. You don’t seem concerned with luck though, because in two short strides you are standing in front of me, and your eyes are dark. You swallow hard, and this intensity, it kills me. You don’t say anything, and I hate the silence between us. Maybe you’re trying to send a message. Maybe you’re into telepathy; I’m not sure. But I’m not afraid of this side of you, Jude. It’s always been the best part. And so when you push me against the wall, I go willingly. At least at first. Because I know you, and you’ve always enjoyed a bit of a fight.

MY REVIEW:

5 Stars!

Boy did I Miss These Two!

With Water Under the Bridge, I wasn't an instant fan. Britney King's writing style threw me for a loop and it took me a few chapters to warm up to the book. This time around I was all in and Dead in the Water didn't disappoint at all.

"Some days with you it feels like trying to squeeze a hurricane into a bottle."

Kate and Jude are a mess to put it nicely and it's no surprise given thier backgrounds and/or occupation. As we left them in book one, things were falling apart and now in this second installment they are trying to put them back together. Masquerading as a "normal" family in the suburbs that are anything but. With Olivia and Brady to also worry about now, things are more hectic than ever.

The main issue with two serial killers is trust and there isn't a whole heck of a lot of that between Jude and Kate. They each know what the other is capable of and it's quite comical when they are upset with each other, they instantly think of ways to make the other disappear forever. Comical in a dark way that is.

It was interesting to see how much juggling this couple had to do to try and fit in. How much lying and faking they perform to themselves and those around them to protect all of the secrets they carry. Which is pretty much the gist of this book, Kate and Jude in everyday situations, oh and a huge twist thrown in as well.

At one point I actually gasped out loud at the way the story was going. Dead in the Water is on the very high end of the angst scale. Not only with the marriage back and forth, but the trials and tribulations of "the job." It seemed like there was trouble around every corner and Kate was a loose cannon most of the time.

"It’s clear, though, that some things bring you together and others tear you apart, and what comes next is often anyone’s guess."

That line sums the story of Kate and Jude perfectly. It's anyone's guess at what is in store for this crazy couple next. Written again from dual points of view, Dead in the Water was a fantastic follow up to a book that was different than anything I've read in a long time.
