I Felt Lost, but it was My Fault
Picking up a series at book seven, the final book no less, isn't a smart idea. While it states it can be read as a standalone, I felt I would have gotten so much more out of the story if I'd read the previous books.
Helen Hardt gives her readers quite a menagerie of characters in Tantalizing Maria and I took the book for review because of that blurb. Her lovers, brothers baby? So Jerry Springer-esque, I had to see what was up. Maria did marry her lovers brother and had good reason for it, or so she thought. Now that the lover is back in the picture under terrible circumstances, she's of course rethinking the entire situation, as is he.
There is a lot of time between this couple and we go from the present to the past to see how Maria and Jeff came to be and then didn't. The whole situation was nuts from beginning to end and I will admit to skimming some of the present parts, predicting how it was going to turn out.
The book is well written and seems to complete the series, however wasn't a great fit for me. Because I have only read the one book, I had no real connection to these characters.
