Book Blurb

I find the love letters in my new dorm room, left behind by a previous occupant.

They're meant for someone else, but the words speak to me. They slide off the page and wrap themselves around my body, touching me in places I never knew existed.

I'm falling in love with each word, unable to stop myself.

And I don't even know his name.

Until they tell me.

His name is Judson Devereux. They say he’s toxic. Falling for him will be a mistake.

I want to believe them. I want to walk away. But the words refuse to be erased from the invisible parts of me.

I'm hooked on the scent of his poison. It’s bad for me. It could kill me. But I’m in too deep.

My Review

3 Stars!

The blurb to Midnight Scent instantly peaked my interest. The thought of reading through another's love letters and finding yourself falling for them was definitely a different concept. Very alluring, but the execution or characters seemed off. I can't put my finger on exactly what irked me about this book, however I wasn't a fan when it was all said and done.

We have our young college student that left a glamourous life behind to finally be a "normal" girl. She goes to classes, has herself a job, as well as a best friend to tell her she is nuts for reading so much into the letters they found in thier new dorm room. On the outs with her mother, the girl is looking for something, which made her quite an easy target.

The letters. Those letters came off more creepy than romantic to me. The fact that the guy was a lunatic lept off the pages and the very reason she made contact with him for the first time would have been the reason I would have thrown them in the trash right off the bat. The guy was nuts and her first inkling was to contact him? Plus, his background isn't all that pristine and everybody on campus knows it. Including her.

He's not even a wolf in sheep's clothing. This guy is an obvious wolf in wolf's clothing, suckering this naive girl right into his twisted den. While we don't get to know a whole lot about Mr. Letter Writer, we learned enough for me not to like him at all.

The book is well written, however didn't keep my interest. I checked out pretty early on the college student and writer of the letters. It was a ridiculous insta-love story, which carries on in a second book.
